The Summer of Excitement

Ablaze in the Marsh, watercolor, copyright 2010, Jan Blencowe

If you follow me on facebook or twitter you may have an inkling about what's going on but if you don't you've probably been wondering where I've been.

Busy would be an understatement. It's 11:20pm and I'm exhausted so I'll be brief. First, we've been building a house. It will be finished in about 8 weeks. If you've built a house you know what this is like, if not I'll clue you in. To start with we have the best, best, best builders ever, Tom and Renee Smith of Cornerstone Construction. They are handling every aspect of the job beautifully. But there is still a ton for me to do. Meetings with the cabinet makers, granite supplier, flooring people, tile folks, lighting designer, electrician and on and on. Still to go will be the landscaping. Plus we still have to clean out and pack up our current house and then do some serious renovations before it will be ready to put on the market. Here's the house as of a few days ago...

The art studio is on the second floor on the left with the double window dormer. It's a huge room, perfect for working in multiple media and holding classes.

Now for the next big bombshell. I am now part owner of an art gallery in Chester, CT. Oh yes!! Here's our logo, designed by moi...

Here is our charming 1790's building....

We have a profile page here make sure you click on the "Blog" tab and read our incredible story. If you had told me three weeks ago that I would be part owner of an art gallery I would have said that you were crazy, but here I am. All of the partners are working like crazy because we open for business in just 8 day on September 17th, beginning at 5pm during the Come Home to Chester Week End. I am the Director of Marketing and believe me I have been working like mad in a very short space of time to create buzz and get media coverage for us. In addition I created the profile page above, a Facebook Page, designed a sign, banner, and postcards. Today I began work on the website, that should be done by late tomorrow, with any luck.

Meanwhile, I am in three shows. I had an opening last Thursday evening at the Main Street Gallery in Niantic, here are a few pics of the opening...

My husband Bill, me, and daughter Shannon

Two more shows coming up "In Between" at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum opening Thursday Sept. 23, 5-7pm

"Artists as Teachers" at Hartford Fine Art, East Hartford, opening September 17th ( Yikes, the day my new gallery opens LOL)

I have one more very exciting thing in the works but it's a secret until all the details are finallized and the contracts are signed. Shhhhh, that's all I can say for now.

I will have more about Maple & Main Gallery to share soon! Gotta go get some sleep now!

Boy...your stars and planets are certainly in alignment or something! It really is an extrodinary time for you. Careful what you wish for. The best will no doubt be your new studio and that view from the palladian window. CONGRATS JAN!
