Plein Air in the Evening

East from Meigs Point, Evening, 6x12 in. acrylic on panel, copyright Jan Blencowe

What an absolutely gorgeous evening it was when I painted this last week. Atmospheric phenomena abounded. I'm wondering if all that volcanic ash from Iceland that's now floating around in the atmosphere had something to do with it.

Look at these gorgeous clouds...

and a few minutes later....

Look at that amazing full moon to the right.

Sunset.

Another look at a lovely cloud formation over the LI Sound.
This was really such a beautiful and incredible evening, I'm so glad I was there to see it and paint it.

I have a few happy news items to share. First, Golden Days, below, has sold through the Brigham Auction Site...

After the Storm, below, has been juried into the 99th Connecticut Academy of Fine Art Exhibit which opens at the Mystic Art Center, 9 Water Street, Mystic, CT on June 10th, 6-8pm. If you're in the area I'll be there and would love to see you!

jan, this is such a beautiful piece. makes me think of my east coast vacation.
This painting also reminds me of a place called "the Neck" on Cape Cod west of Falmouth, I think.

And, Jan, I agree that volcanic ash can do some beautiful atmospheric effects.

I have never forgotten the sky effects of the blast of Mt. Pinatubo in the Phillipines. Lake Michigan had the FABULOUS sunsets.
