Benches As Art at the New Britain Museum of American Art

After seeing my work in the juried members show in November the New Britian Museum of American Art invited me to contribute a painting to their annual fundraising gala this year. I am always delighted to donate to museum fundraisers. Museums bring so much wonderful art to communities they deserve our support.

They asked artists for a Mini Masterpieces 4x6 inches, the size of a postcard.

Here's my mini masterpiece, Marshview

After dropping my work off, I took some time to browse through the art and have lunch in the cafe. I'll have a post about what caught my eye on this visit after I finish up my series on the Yale Center for British Art & the Yale University Art Gallery.

But I do have one thing to share with you from my day, the benches in the museum. The New Britain Museum has fabulous benches in the galleries that you can sit on as you enjoy viewing the art. These benches are functional works of art in themselves. Take a look at the video of them I created and see if you don't agree. The video is also up at YouTube and you can view it there as well.

Furniture has always been a beautiful art form in and of itself. Yet another of my many fascinations. These benches are each exquisite!
