Jan, this was so interesting to me. Funnily enough your mini lesson coincides beautifully with what I am learning in my art course, the very first book. This book talks about both the elements and the principles of art, including balance, emphasis (center of interest), etc. Definitely helps to cement the ideas behind the words in my head. Thank you!

The basics are the basics are the basics! The elements and principles of art are what concerns every artist, novice to master. In ten life times you would never exhaust their possibilities or meanings.

Learning them, understanding them, applying them, and finally manipulating them charts a course for creative growth!

Never underestimate the power of the basics!
