Here's a look at the final painting one more time and a video of the final analysis of the piece.
If you receive The Poetic Landscape via e-mail you can view the video on the blog or on YouTube.

I have a new painting on the easel (progress pic tomorrow!) and I've decided to make a series of 20 paintings in this same size 24x30, using this first painting as a starting point. Many will be marsh scenes and all will focus on a few characteristics to unify the series

Large sky area
textural surface
incorporate sgraffito
heavy atmosphere
large shapes
strong darks
sudbued color
glowing light

My basic idea is to convey the strength and enduring quality of the land even as tides ebb and flow and seasons change.  It is the large shapes and the dark ones especially in the painting above that has captivated my attention and I feel that this idea is worth exploring in a new series.I want to do something powerful that has both emotional and visual impact and I believe paintings of this size, and proportion coupled with large shapes and rich dark values will convey that feeling of strength and power.

Please don't forget the 140 Hours Haitian Relief Auction on January 29th! I have donated two pieces to this cause. 100% of the profits will go to the relief efforts through Doctors without Borders and The International Medic Corps.

I also have an abstract painting in the regular portion of the 140Hours auction, it's called Torrent see it here
