Late summer brings an explosion of extravagent color and texture to the garden. Dahlias were a favorite in Victorian times for their exotic looks and extra large sizes and they continue to charm us today.
I don't have dahlias in my own garden but here in Connecticut it's not unusual to see homemade stands and booths at the end of driveways with bunches of colorful flowers plunged into mason jars or coffee can filled with cool water and piles of tomatoes and zucchini in baskets. They're all for sale on the honor system, a little hand painted sign tells the price and a box or jar sits nearby to collect your money. That's how I acquired this cheerful bunch of dahlia's and now I pass them on to you to enjoy!
