Painted en plein air in Old Saybrook, CT. The boats moored in the river are barely visible through the summer haze. High summer has arrived, it's holding it's breath, lush and verdant for a moment and when it exhales the Grande Dame Summer will begin her slow decline. Wildflowers will proliferate, bloom in a riot and go to seed. Gardens will be ridiculously overrun with zucchini. Chrysanthemums will begin making their appearance at farm stands and garden centers. Here and there amongst all the green an occasional gold or red leaf will be seen. The haze and humidity will dissipate and give way to clearer, cooler days and monarch butterflies will fill the skies. But for now Summer holds court and I bow to her rule. Enjoy!
