New Page in my Plein Air Sketchbook

Plein Air Sketchbook , painting by Jan Blencowe

About This Painting: This painting is really a sketch. We've had such gray, dull, rainy weather for the past week that it hardly makes sense to pack everything up to go out and paint. But since the weather has been changeable with the sun pushing its way out here and there I'm always prepared for a quick plein air sketch. I keep a nice sketching kit in the car so I have it with me to use on a moments notice.

I'm working on filling a new sketchbook that has ph neutral 25% cotton 130lb paper in it which is perfect for quick watercolors. I love using a uniball vision pen first and then laying in quick color with my Yarka watercolors.

You'll also notice the 2 small thumbnail sketches, which are really notan sketches done in tones of green. These are very helpful for training you eye to quickly discern the patterns of dark and light in a scene.
