Marsh at Rocky Neck Plein Air Field Study

Marsh at Rocky Neck, painting by Jan Blencowe

Copyright 2009 Jan Blencowe, Connecticut, USA

About This Painting:
Lovely small format plein air painting. After a rainy morning the afternoon turned gorgeous. Though you can still see some of the moisture hanging in the air the livght and sky wee lovely. As I stood on the observation platform I was treated to the sounds and sights of red wing black birds, egrets and ospreys.

I'm trying to slow down and spend more time on these field studies trying to record not just the broad, general look of the scene but some of the more particular details as well, like the fluffiness of the reed heads, the subtle color and light changes on the leaves of the foreground foliage and the hazy over the distant tree line.

Media: acrylic on museum quality panel
Size: 8 in X 6 in (20.3 cm X 15.2 cm)
Style: plein air impressionism/tonalism
