Spring Rain Storm Small Tonalist Painting

About this Painting: This is a small study focusing on the the use of small concentrated light, harmonious earthy color and the division of space in a very minimal composition. There's lots of mood and emotion in this for such a small painting. It was an interesting challenge to tap into the essential elements of a rain storm and to capture the crack of lightening without it becoming overdone or a cliche. Tonalist paintings often zero in on a time of low light or a sublime moment in nature, like a lightening strike, that brings attention to the untamed power of nature.

For instance I follow a woman who runs a safe, shelter for dogs and cats. She takes them in and gets them ready to go to no-kill shelters for adoption.
My wonderful Maggie was a rescue so I have a really soft spot in my heart for shelter dogs. She tweeted to let folks know that because the economy was so bad they'd lost a lot of their support money and a couple of important grants.
I checked out her website and was able to make a donation to help her with the wonderful, kind work she does. She's also an artist and you might like to check out her webpage A Place to Bark or her blog to really get to know the dogs and cats, lots of great pics and video.
Help them out of you can, they're a registered 501 C3 non-profit and donations are tax deductible.
