Impressionism for Kids

When I was a homeschooling mom I made sure that my children got a good foundation in art history by always working it into their regular history lessons. When we studied history we started at the beginning of time in Mesopotamia and worked our way forwards to the present over four years, from 1st to 4th grade, and then began again at a more indepth level starting over at the beginning in the 5th grade. Trips to museums brought it all to life and some very good books and videos were used when a trip to the Lourve wasn't within our budget LOL

Now that the Holiday Shopping season is upon us I am trying to pull together bundles of books and visual materials at my on-line bookstore to make gift giving easier for the art minded among us. So, if you have children in your life with whom you would like to share the joyful color and light of the Impressionists you can check out my recommendations here

hehe - we ARE indeed like-minded moms! We homeschooled, too, 1st - 5th grades & were living in northern VA...we'd take the metro into DC & go visit the National Gallery & others. We'd hit the gift shop 1st & every one got 5 postcards...that was the basis for our 'scavenger hunt'. Heather's favorites were works by Thomas Cole & when she found the small gallery room with his works she's all excited yelling, " I found my paintings, I found my paintings". She was 8 yr. old then & read every sign on every wall about him, stared at these so long, I thought the guards would lose their minds...(I think they wondered if she was really looney). But she remembers these works... it was such a fun part of our lives, and one we'll never forget....scavenger hunts in some of the best art museums around! Now they are grown, but that love of art has stayed with them..& certainly has enriched their lives.
