Done with a palette knife this has juicy, thick paint that creates really interesting surface texture along with rich color. Take a look at the edges and remember the concept of edge ratio. The top has basically one segment, which acts a calm counter balance to the activity in the lower half of the painting. The right side has 7 segments, the bottom edge 5, and the left side has 6. So the edge ratio is 1:7:5:6, going clockwise. Nice variation, there. The value pattern has mid-tones dominating with light values next and darks in a subordinate roll. Color scheme is 2/3 warm with a healthy dose of cool blue to create visual tension. In the mark making department there are larger patches of color, smaller dashes and daubs and areas of paint that have been applied horizontally, vertically and on diagonals to create lots of visual variety. I think there will be 2 more in this series, maybe they'll work as a tryptict, maybe not....still thinking about that possibility. Stay tuned!

I love the way this turned out. Never heard of the concepts you explained in your post, but they make for an interesting painting.
